Debut full length of eccentric, morbid, and melancholic black metal. Within the realms of the genre there are many tropes that confine the artists to limited room to propel yet lying within this rich first offering Portent breaks away from them all. There's distinct vocalization and timing of phrasing along with driving melodies that ooze ferocity fueled by anguish. Chords echo their way down some tracks only to transition smoothly into unexpected melodies and tonal changes. Winding psychedelic riffs show themselves several times, never afraid to throw a solo across the plane to further the cause. All of this adds up to a memorable and exciting debut from a new composer with much more left to unleash.
